Labor Day Weekend: Activities Edition

Long weekends are the best. And this Labor Day weekend, we packed a whole lot of fun into four short days. Months ago, I reserved spots on a bus trip to Chicago with my company for Max’s birthday (in May…a bit of a belated gift!). On this quick trip, we got tickets to the Cubs game and Hawkeyes game at Soldier Field, and a room for one night in downtown Chicago. My parents, being the copycats that they are (:)), wanted in on the fun, too, so my mom reserved two spots for my dad’s birthday (a little more relevant since his birthday is September 5th). Well, after months of saying how far away the trip is, it was finally here.

Friday: Our alarm was set for a chipper 3:45 AM on Friday morning to make it to the bus by 4:45. (Four hours of sleep didn’t feel all that bad until we about inning 6 of the Cubs game.) The good company and booze on the bus made for an easy trip, the Cubbies won (for once), and after showering and freshening up at the hotel, my parents and I headed out for a birthday celebration feast (post on food to come!). We were back in bed by 10:00, asleep by 11 after a long and eventful day.

Saturday: After catching up on sleep, we woke up refreshed and ready to tailgate for the Hawkeye game. The bus was loaded back up by 10, and we made our way a few short miles to Soldier Field, which, of course, took about an hour. Our bus crammed into a tailgating lot and the drinking and eating began! The looming threat of rain held off for the whole day — SO AWESOME! With four hours of tailgating, we had plenty of time to wander around the park, stroll down to the lake, and drink a few beers. The game was a blast, the Hawkeyes barely won, and back on the bus we went! After getting out of traffic, we had a smooth ride back, and Max and I were dropped off in Iowa City to spend a few days with his family. A perfect, relaxing end to a crazy 1.5 days đŸ™‚

I posted a few fun pics from our trip below. They don’t hardly do the weekend justice. We had a blast!

Coming up tomorrow: Labor Day Weekend, Food Edition — see some of the delicious eats we enjoyed in the Windy City (and in Iowa City)!
